Plein Air Down Under - WA’s Premier Outdoor Painting Festival Returns for 2024

Plein Air Down Under is more than just a painting festival; it's a cultural celebration that brings people together through art. The festival celebrates the tradition of painting 'en plein air' – a French term meaning 'in the open air'

Festival Highlights:

• Master classes and Peel Paint Out (September 17-24): Kick-off the festival by learning new artistic skills from world class international artists including Lori Putnam (US), Leon Holmes (AU) and Tony Robinson (UK) during master classes and paint out sessions in the Peel region.

• Three Days of Outdoor Painting (September 21-23): Watch as artists create masterpieces in real-time, competing for prestigious awards and prizes. The event will take place across various scenic locations, including Mandjar Square, the Mandurah Foreshore, and the historical sites of Pinjarra.

• Evening Festivities (September 21 & 22): Grab a drink and join in the lively demonstrations and artist gatherings at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, featuring an exhibition of works by participating artists and a special feature artist panel discussion.

• Workshops and Demonstrations: Engage with renowned artists through interactive workshops and live demonstrations. These sessions are designed for all skill levels, offering unique insights into the plein air painting technique.

• Youth and Community Engagement: Encourage young artists and local communities to participate in dedicated workshops and painting sessions. This initiative aims to foster creativity and appreciation for the arts among the next generation. Free activities for all are available for added fun.

• Exhibitions and Awards (September 24 – October 6): Explore the festival’s curated exhibitions showcasing the diverse talents of participating artists: Spirit of the Landscape Exhibition and Festival Weekend Exhibition at Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. The event will culminate in an awards ceremony celebrating the best works created during the festival. This year’s prize and awards value amounts to AUD$12,000.
