Sporting clubs and community groups are being encouraged to apply for funding through the City of Mandurah to help hold events that attract visitors and showcase the local lifestyle.

The City’s Community Event Support Grant assists non-profit clubs and community groups to organise events that demonstrate significant economic and social benefits by encouraging attendance and participation, engaging local businesses and helping to create a more vibrant city.

Up to $3000 can be awarded for each event from a total annual pool of $30,000.

Eleven local groups received funding as part of the first round of grants in 2021/22.

The WA Australian Street Rod Federation received a grant towards its Hot Rod and Custom Spectacular Show, held on the Western Foreshore on January 30.

With 170 hot rods on show, many of which travelled from Perth and the northern suburbs, the event attracted more than 600 visitors and raised close to $2000 for mental health and well-being support organisation Beyond Blue.

The event included food vendors, a barbecue by the Mandurah Lions Club, and involvement from local clubs Mandurah Rod & Custom Car Club and Comet Bay Rodders.

The Federation is now preparing for next year’s event.

Applications for the new round of Community Event Support Grants are now open, and close on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
