Call to update your information ahead of Rockingham elections

City of Rockingham residents wishing to vote or run as a candidate in the 2021 Local Government elections are being encouraged to ensure their information is up to date on the electoral roll. 

Local Government elections are held every two years with the 2021 elections to be held on Saturday, October 16. 

Residents have the chance to vote in a postal ballot during the weeks leading up to the election, with votes officially counted on 16 October.

The position of Mayor and six councillor positions across all of the City’s wards will be up for election this year.  

Leading up to the election the City will host a Candidate Information Session on Wednesday August 18 at 5pm at the City’s Administration Building on Civic Boulevard.

The session will include:  

  • 5pm – 6pm: A live webinar of the Western Australian Local Government Association’s (WALGA) Candidate Information Briefing (This webinar will also be recorded for later viewing on WALGA’s website. Candidates who cannot make the session in-person can watch the webinar by registering on WALGA’s website Webinar Registration - Zoom). 
  • 6:30pm: Presentations from City of Rockingham CEO Michael Parker, WAEC, and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. 

This session will provide potential candidates with information on the electoral process as well as the roles and responsibilities of being an elected member. 

Voters are encouraged to update their details prior to the closure of rolls at 5pm on Friday, August 27. 

Nominations for candidates will be open from Thursday, September 2 until 4pm on Thursday, September 9.

It is anticipated that the WAEC will mail out voting packs by Friday September 24.
