Entries for the 2020 Castaways Sculpture Awards are now open.
Castaways is the City of Rockingham’s signature arts and cultural event, celebrating environmental awareness though artistic innovation.
Each year, the outdoor sculptural exhibition showcases artworks from Western Australian artists, created from repurposed materials.
In 2020, professional and emerging artists are invited to enter two awards exhibitions.
The main Castaways Sculpture Awards Exhibition will be held at the Rockingham Beach Foreshore alongside the Schools Exhibition.
The Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition, in its second year, will be held at the nearby Rockingham Arts Centre.
Selected artworks will be exhibited for nine days from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November 2020.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels is encouraging artists, schools and other groups to make a submission.
“Some exciting additions were made to the Castaways Sculptural Awards and Exhibition last year and the City is delighted to be continuing some of these initiatives in 2020,” Mayor Sammels said.
“Castaways is a highly popular event and a great way for artists to share their talent and promote their works.”
There are more than $25,000 in non-acquisitive prizes to be won, including the $10,000 Major Award for overall excellence in sculpture featuring recycled or repurposed aluminium.
Entries for the Main Exhibition opened Tuesday 3 March and close Friday 5 June 2020.
Entries for the Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition and Castaways Schools Competition open Tuesday 2 June and close Friday 14 August 2020.
