The City of Rockingham has secured $6.7 million in funding from Main Roads WA in a bid to reduce congestion and boost safety across the community.

The Metropolitan Regional Road Group (MRRG) funding will go towards 10 projects in 2023/2024.

These projects include:

  • Baldivis Road (between Highbury Boulevard to Furioso Green), upgrading the existing single carriageway to dual carriageway with on-road cycle lanes and a 2.5 metre shared path.
  • Read Street (between intersection of Patterson Road/Flinders Lane/Read Street to Robinson Road/Read Street), extending some turning lanes and modifying some intersections to improve safety.
  • Mandurah Road and Anstey Road intersection in Secret Harbour: Designing the conversion of the western left turn give-way lane into a continuous slip lane with 250m of acceleration space (Please note - only design funding has been received so far. The City will continue to try and secure funding for construction).

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin said these projects would be delivered in line with the City’s Road Safety Action Plan and the Strategic Asset Management Plan.

“The City regularly assesses the areas across the community that have a recorded history of fatal and/or serious crashes, and these locations are prioritised as Black Spot funded projects. The City also does assessments to identify congestion hotspots and areas that would benefit from a road upgrade” Mayor Hamblin said.

“The works the City delivers with assistance from this MRRG Funding will be crucial to improving safety for community members and we thank Main Roads WA for supporting these vital projects.”
