Contract awarded for Mandurah Estuary Bridge duplication

The Mandurah Estuary Bridge duplication has taken another step forward with a contract now awarded to Georgiou Group Pty Ltd to design and deliver the project.

Georgiou Group Pty Ltd were named as the preferred proponent in September.

The project will see a second, two-lane bridge constructed on the south side of the current Estuary Bridge which will improve congestion and safety.

It will also include the construction of a new four-metre-wide shared path to improve connectivity and access to recreational activities for the local community.

More than 33,000 vehicles currently use the existing Mandurah Estuary Bridge every day, with congestion an ongoing issue.

"The Mandurah Estuary Bridge was built more than 40 years ago, but it was not designed to cater for the high volumes of traffic we see along this corridor today," Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

"The bridge is used by thousands of people every single day, but it has become a bottleneck for commuters travelling within the Mandurah and Dawesville communities.

"Duplicating the bridge will significantly ease the congestion currently experienced on approach to the bridge and cut the travel times for the thousands of commuters every single day."

Construction is expected to start in early 2024, with site investigations getting underway before the end of the year.

Georgiou Group Pty Ltd has considerable experience in constructing bridges in Western Australia, including the design and construction of the Mandurah Traffic Bridge, which was completed in 2018.

The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments.
