Crabbing, pink snapper season now closed

Fisheries WA are reminding locals that from today, September 1, you are no longer allowed to fish for blue swimmer crabs and pink snapper.

Fishing for blue swimmer crabs is prohibited in all waters including coastal, rivers and estuaries from the Swan River to Minninup Beach (15km south of Bunbury) for three months until November 30.

The season closure is to help protect breeding stocks allowing females to spawn before the fishery reopens.

Meanwhile, fishing for or being in possession of pink snapper in the Cockburn and Warnbro Sounds will be illegal until January 31.

The closure is critical for sustaining adequate breeding stocks of the long-lived and slow- growing fish.
