Entries now open for City of Rockingham’s 2025 Castaways Sculpture Awards

Entries are now open for the City of Rockingham’s 2025 Castaways Sculpture Awards.

Castaways, the City’s signature arts and culture event, celebrates environmental awareness through artistic innovation. 

In 2025 Castaway’s will run from Saturday, October 25 until Sunday, November 2, with a total prize pool of $27,250 (non-acquisitive) available for entrants.

All works must consist of 65 per cent recycled materials.

To be eligible for the $10,000 Major Award works must have 30 per cent component of visible aluminium. 

Judges will be looking for originality, outstanding technical skill and concepts, and whether the works are aesthetically engaging and represent excellence in recycled sculpture. 

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged artists of all ages and skill levels from across the state to submit an entry. 

“These annual awards offer WA artists, and local primary and secondary schools the opportunity to develop and showcase their skills by being exhibited in a long-running, high profile event, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Rockingham Foreshore,” Mayor Hamblin said.  

“Since 2008 Castaways has seen talented artists create their works using recycled and repurposed materials, and every year it features several thought-provoking pieces that are visually stunning. Such is the quality of work displayed, the City has purchased several Castaways pieces for its own art collection.”

Entries for Castaways close at 4pm Thursday, May 15, 2025.

To assist entrants, the City will be presenting information sessions on how to enter each of the exhibitions.

Awards:
•    $10,000 Major Award - for overall excellence in sculpture artwork with a 30 per cent visual aluminium component.
•    $5000 Sustainability Award - for creatively using recycled or repurposed materials that supports the concept of sustainability in its message.
•    $5000 Innovation Award – a sculpture that utilises repurposed materials that demonstrates excellence in concept, vision and design, using the materials in an innovative or unexpected way.
•    $2500 Maquette and Small Sculpture Award - for excellence in small scale sculpture creatively using recycled or repurposed materials.
•    $2000 Local Resident Award - for local artist entrants residing in the district. 
•    $500 Primary School Award.
•    $500 Secondary School Award.
•    People’s Choice Awards - for the artwork receiving the most votes from members of the public for the Castaways Main Exhibition ($1000), 
•    Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition ($500) 
•    Castaways Schools Exhibition ($250).
