The Federal Government has committed $178 million towards the Pinjarra Heavy Haulage Deviation.

Announced in Tuesday's Federal Budget, the funding boost is on top of an already committed $22 million for stage one of the project.

The money will be used to construct a deviation road from Greenlands Road intersection to the South Western Highway, keeping trucks out of the Pinjarra town centre.

Construction of the Pinjarra Heavy Haulage Deviation is expected to support 525 jobs.

“Population and industry around the Peel region is growing fast,” Canning MP Andrew Hastie said.

“More than 690 trucks travel through Pinjarra each day and this deviation will help make the town safer for locals, and transit easier for truck drivers.

“This $178 million is on top of the $22 million we have previously committed and means we can build the entire eastern Pinjarra Heavy Haulage Deviation at once."

The Federal Government is also committing $145 million for a major upgrade to Thomas Road in Serpentine-Jarrahdale.
