Canning MP Andrew Hastie has moved a motion in parliament overnight in response to the Alcoa workers strike.
Mr Hastie called for job security, identifying the national cost of energy as a risk to Australian industry and jobs, and for Alcoa and the Australian Workers Union (AWU) to reach a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA).
"We have an energy crisis in this country and it is hurting Australian industry, our workers and our competiveness in a global economy," Mr Hastie told parliament.
1600 Alcoa workers from facilities in Pinjarra, Kwinana, Wagerup, Huntly and Willowdale have been on indefinite strike since August 8.
"This strike is the result of over 18 months of failed negotiations with Alcoa over a new EBA," Mr Hastie said.
On Monday, Alcoa moved to terminate the EBA.
The formal process is expected to take a few days.
