Mandurah’s new Estuary Pool has taken a major leap forward, with works starting on the soon to be iconic circular floating jetty platform.

The Estuary Pool forms part of the $22million Mandurah Waterfront Project, which is well on track for completion by late 2021.

Mayor Rhys Williams said the pool is going to be iconic to Mandurah, unique to Western Australia and will bring new life to the city centre.

“I’m so excited by this latest development; you can literally see the new pool coming to life,” he said.

“The curved pontoons will give the pool its distinctive circular shape.

"The site has historically been a meeting and swimming place being the location of the old Mandurah bathing sheds and then the Robert Day Memorial Pool from the 1960s to 80s.”

The Estuary Pool is an important part of the broader plan to reactivate the city centre, extend Mandurah’s standing as a tourist destination and stimulate new opportunities for Mandurah’s economy.

Mayor Rhys Williams said many sections of Mandurah’s city centre will be unrecognisable by the end of the year.

“Mandurah’s Summer of 2021 is going to look a lot different to 2020, and the Estuary Pool will be a fantastic spot for us to cool down during a day exploring town," he continued.

"I personally can’t wait to get in!”

The Estuary Pool and surrounding area has been specifically designed with tourism and recreational activities in mind.

Adjacent to the pool will be an upgraded beach with ramp access, boardwalk, shade and seating area.

Directly behind the pool will be a flexible paved space, which can be utilised by events, activations, amusements, food trucks, concerts or performances.

There are also opportunities for water based recreation, water transport and tourist activities.

The Estuary Pool is part of the City’s broader Mandurah Waterfront Project, which is being delivered as a joint initiative between City of Mandurah, State and Federal Government.
