Man charged after allegedly ramming police motorbike in Golden Bay

A 25-year-old man has been charged after allegedly ramming a police motorcycle in Golden Bay.

The man was driving a Subaru Forrester along Mandurah Road around 5.40am on Friday, March 15 when he was instructed to pull over for a traffic stop at the intersection of Dampier Drive.

The driver pulled over and came to a stop before the police officer pulled up about five metres behind him, with lights still activated on his motorbike.

As the officer approached the Subaru the man allegedly reversed at high speed towards the police motorcycle, causing the officer to step back from the car and onto the road with traffic approaching at 100km/h.

The man's Subaru then allegedly hit the motorcycle, knocking it from its stand and pushing it along the road, causing extensive damage to the bike and its police equipment.

The driver then allegedly sped off along Mandurah Road.

The man from Lakelands has been charged with endangering the life, health or safety of a person, reckless driving to escape pursuit, criminal damage, no authority to drive, failing to report an incident and obstructing public officers.

He is due to appear before the Rockingham Magistrates Court today.
