A 28-year-old man has been charged over a dangerous police pursuit through Mandurah.

Around 7.30pm on Thursday, officers from the police helicopter spotted a stolen Mitsubishi ASX being driven on Fourth Avenue in Dudley Park.

The car was reported stolen on May 30.

An attempt to stop the vehicle was made on Coolibah Avenue but the driver allegedly failed to stop, speeding through several Mandurah streets.

During the pursuit the man allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and sped through red traffic lights causing other drivers to take evasive action.

A stinger device was successfully deployed at the intersection of Pinjarra Road and Ranceby Avenue causing damage to the vehicle’s tyres.

After driving through several more streets at a slower speed the vehicle became bogged on Mandurah Road as the driver attempted to cross a bush traffic island.

A 28-year-old man was taken into custody and it will be alleged a machete was located in the vehicle.

During the incident three police vehicles received significant damage during attempts to physically block and stop the stolen car.

A 28-year-old man from Mandurah has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, failing to stop, reckless driving, no authority to drive and two counts of stealing.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
