A soccer program targeted at overweight men is coming to Rockingham.
Starting on Thursday September 5, 2019, the MAN v FAT soccer program will kick off with an information session at the Aqua Jetty in Warnbro.
The MAN v FAT soccer program is an initiative from the University of Western Australia that is inspired by a successful version of the same program which originated in the United Kingdom.
The program sees men compete in a 15 week, 6-a-side soccer league that is exclusively designed for men with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 27.5.
During matches the results are determined not only by the number of goals scored, but also by factoring in the amount of weight a team has lost during the previous week.
Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged eligible men in the City of Rockingham to get involved in the new competition.
“The MAN V FAT soccer program is an exciting new initiative that is focused on improving the health profile of men across the City,” Mayor Sammels
said.
“The league is the first of its kind in Rockingham and aims to support men in achieving long lasting weight loss and behavioural change.
“Participants will be supported to achieve long term weight loss by receiving a MAN v FAT soccer handbook, weight loss manual as well as having access to a website, online forum and messaging network with their team mates.”
The season will run from September 5, 2019 to December 5, 2019.
Games will be played on the indoor multipurpose court at the Aqua Jetty from 6.30pm – 8.30pm each Thursday night.
Matches will be 30 minutes long and players will be weighed before the game to gauge their progress.
A one-off $10 registration fee applies to participants.
