Online fundraising website GoFundMe has named Mandurah as the fourth most generous town in Australia this year.
The report, 2020 Year of Giving, showed donations to community fundraisers doubled this year compared to 2019 making it the fastest growing category outside of emergency, volunteer and animals.
The top Mandurah GoFundMe pages launched this year were:
- Amber's Beach Bench with $41,000 raised
- David McKenzie with $31,000 raised
- Troy "Ando" Anderson with $14,000 raised
- Stephanie Moses Memorial with $13,000 raised
- Supporting the Lucas family during their loss $11,000 raised.
Bundaberg was named the most generous town based on the number of donations per capita, closely followed by Wagga Wagga, Mackay, Mandurah and Launceston.
"In a year that started with some of the worst bushfires on record, the response of ordinary Australians in the face of unforeseen challenges has been nothing short of remarkable," said Nicola Britton, Regional Manager at GoFundMe Australia.
"At the heart of the response is community. Community means something different for each and every Australian, we have seen community generosity in ways not witnessed before.
"The power of collective action saw Australians stand together to drive unparalleled generosity to help loved ones, neighbours and strangers in need."
