The City of Mandurah will soon put the call out for a design and construction contract to replace the roof above the 25m indoor pool at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC).
The advertising process for the roof replacement is set to start this month, and the tender request will be in market for six weeks before the contract is awarded in mid-2022.
In May 2021, the City became aware of damage to the MARC’s roof, which has been isolated to the area directly above the indoor program pool.
This section of the roof was part of the centre’s original roof structure prior to the redevelopment in 2016.
City of Mandurah Chief Executive Officer Mark Newman said more information will be given to the community once the procurement process is completed and a contract has been awarded.
“This has been a complex process which has taken some time to complete, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through this,” Mr Newman said.
“We are now at the stage where we are close to being ready to go out to the market with the contract, however this is also a considered process that will take some time.
“We must also be aware that, as with many other projects, there may be other challenges to overcome along the way due to the impacts facing the construction industry at the moment.
“When we looked at the original scope of works to replace the roof, the market was in a different place, so we may be presented with external challenges to this project such as high demand of the WA construction industry and availability of materials.
“I’d like to thank the community, MARC members and employees for their patience and understanding during this complicated process.”
