The new facility increases access to children’s health care in Serpentine.

Serpentine residents now have access to health care closer to home with the Child and Adolescent Health Service now operating three days a week from the Shire’s St John’s Ambulance Hall.

The service has been made possible by an annual operating subsidy of more than $10,000 and tenure at the facility for the next five years, which was approved by the Serpentine Jarrahdale Council last year.

The Child and Adolescent Health Service has been providing primary health care to parents and children within the Shire at the Byford Child Health Clinic at its Park Road facility for more than 30 years.

With significant population growth in the Shire over the past five years, the service identified a need for an additional facility to support the growing demand.

After upgrades to the hall, located at the corner of Wellard and Richardson streets, the clinic opened on 29 June, 2020, and will provide a service on Thursday, Friday and alternate Wednesdays, with further expansion expected.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the Council was pleased to be supporting such a valuable service.

“Having services in both Byford and Serpentine means there is greater access to health care at locations closer to where people live,” Cr Rich said.

“Parents in our southern locations will no longer need to travel Byford for the service, which is a huge benefit for our community.”

Child and Adolescent Health Service Serpentine site nurse Sue Luskan said they looked forward to seeing more clients at the new facility.

“The Child Health Service is available to all families and provides support to optimise the health, wellbeing and development of children,” Mrs Luskan said.

“Services include growth and developmental assessments, targeted programs and referral to other services where needed.”

Child and Adolescent Health Service Clinics are located at Park Road, Byford, and at the corner of Wellard and Richardson streets, Serpentine. Contact them on 9525 1180.
