Honeywood’s new sporting pavilion will be dual-named, in a first for the City of Kwinana.

The Ngook Boorn Mia-Mia / Honeywood Pavilion will be the first dual-named facility owned by the City of Kwinana and registrations of interest are now open to clubs interested in hiring the space.

Ngook (honey) Boorn (wood) Mia-Mia (house) is a direct translation of Honeywood Pavilion in local Nyoongar dialect.

Mayor Carol Adams said the pavilion is nearing practical completion and is expected to open in October 2022 for public use on weekends and outside of school hours,

“The City of Kwinana encourages all applicants to consider the mixed use of the site and look for opportunities for partnerships or concurrent use,” Mayor Adams said.

“We are very excited to open this facility in coming weeks.

“The pavilion has been part of an extensive community consultation process, including community meetings, online surveys and interviews with key stakeholders such as surrounding residents, the Local Farmers Market, the Honeywood Residents Group, Honeywood Primary School, peak sporting bodies and potential user groups.

“It is a much-anticipated facility that will increase the number of sporting pavilions within the City."

The facility contains a kitchen, hall/function space, two changerooms, toilets and storage capacity.

The City is providing a six-week period for clubs, potential user groups and regular hirers to register their interest in hiring Ngook Boorn Mia-Mia / Honeywood Pavilion.

The registration of interest (ROI) process allows the City to understand the needs and expectations of the various clubs and groups wanting to use or apply for tenancy of the facility.

Registrations are open until September 23.
