Three of Perth's biggest animal rescue groups are dropping their adoption prices this weekend.
RSPCA WA, Cat Haven, and SAFE Inc will reduce their fees on Saturday and Sunday to make pet ownership more affordable for local families.
All cats will cost just $29 to adopt during the Kennel to Couch promotion, while dog adoption fees will be dropped to $79.
Fee-free adoptions will also be on offer for smaller pets including rabbits and guinea pigs.
RSPCA WA’s Animal Care Centre in Malaga will transform into a winter wonderland for the two-day event, with dogs and staff donning their favourite pyjamas, plus face painting and a coffee van on site.
Potential pet parents can visit 108 Malaga Drive, Malaga, from 9am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday–no adoption appointments are necessary.
"Animal shelters across Perth are flooded with unwanted animals, and unfortunately we’re seeing pets are waiting longer than usual find a home," RSPCA WA Shelter Manager Emily Smith said.
"RSPCA WA, Cat Haven and SAFE Inc all want the same thing–to see our animals adopted into loving homes where they can be showered with love and warmth this winter.
"Cat Haven will be bringing adoptable felines along to RSPCA WA in Malaga this weekend, while SAFE Inc staff will be on site with photos and information about their animals who are available for adoption.
"While prospective adopters will be subject to the same checks as always, importantly, our data has shown us that the price of acquiring an animal has no influence on the long-term success of adoption or welfare outcomes."
Ms Smith said it was hoped the reduced fees might help rehome long-termers like Zelda, who has been waiting for a family for over 100 days.
"Winter is a particularly heartbreaking time to see animals waiting so long in the kennels," she said.
"Dogs like Zelda have so much love to give. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, this weekend is the paw-fect time to make an animal’s winter wish come true."
