The Rockingham and Districts Toy Library now has a new home at the Rockingham Central Library.

The Rockingham and Districts Toy Library, which has operated at a number of locations across the City in the past, has provided residents with access to a large range of children’s toys and play equipment for many years at little to no cost.

Following unsuccessful attempts to find a permanent new home that was suitable for the toy library’s needs, City staff and toy library volunteers worked collaboratively to transfer the service to its new home at Rockingham Central Library.

Mayor Barry Sammels thanked the former toy library committee for being open to the idea of change and proactive in ensuring a long term future for the toy library.

“The City is delighted to be able to offer the toy library as a regular service, which will be free for all library members to use,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Former Rockingham and Districts Toy Library committee members and the City have worked together to deliver this new service and we hope to continue this collaboration in the future.”

Toy libraries are considered important tools in supporting the early learning needs of young children. Toy stock will be accessible on the library catalogue and will be maintained as a core library collection.

“As our community changes so to do the range of services and programs that our libraries offer,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Services such as a toy library sit well within the setup of a community library and will extend the wide range of services we are able to offer residents.”
