Rockingham artists can now enter into the City's 2021 Castaways Sculpture Awards competition.

Castaways, which began in 2008, is the City’s premier arts and culture event which celebrates artistic innovation and environmental awareness showcasing artworks made from repurposed materials.

This years event is scheduled to run from Saturday 23 - Sunday 31 October and will be curated by Lyn DiCiero.

Today, Castaways provides an important opportunity for emerging and professional Western Australian artists, schools and local businesses to be a part of a regionally-recognised arts program that continues to promote sustainability values.

Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged artists, schools and other groups to make a submission.

“Castaways showcases the outstanding artistic talent in our community and with a prize pool of $26,500 for participants available, it represents a fantastic opportunity for both emerging and professional artists to promote their work,” he said.

“Mentorship opportunities are also available for up to four emerging artists who develop work for the Main Exhibition. Through the selection process, the curator will determine potential candidates.”

The Castaways Sculpture Awards Main Exhibition will be displayed at the Rockingham Foreshore in conjunction with the Schools Competition Exhibition.

The Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition will be on display at the Rockingham Arts Centre on Kent Street.

Entries for the Main Exhibition close 4pm Monday, May 31 and Schools Competition close 4pm Monday, 7 June.

Entries for the Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition open 9am Monday April 12 and close 4pm Monday July 5.
