The City of Rockingham’s Seniors and Carers Expo will return on Friday October 1 at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex.
Coinciding with the International Day of Older Persons, this year’s event will be held over two free ticketed sessions, running from 10am – 12pm or 1pm – 3pm.
The event will feature nearly 150 stalls, providing seniors and carers with the opportunity to connect with a range of organisations, community groups, government departments and support services.
International Day of Older Persons is celebrated annually on October 1 each year, and City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the expo provided an opportunity to raise community awareness of the issues surrounding ageing.
“The Seniors and Carers Expo is the City’s biggest event for seniors and is a key element of the City’s Seniors Strategy 2017 – 2021,” Mayor Sammels said.
“It provides community members with access to a wealth of valuable information on the wide range of programs, activities and services that are available to help seniors live a safe and fulfilling life.
“The City has been a member of the World Health Organisation’s Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities since 2012 and events such as the Seniors and Carers Expo are a crucial part of why Rockingham continues to be an Age-Friendly community."
On the day there will be free parking available in the main car park at Mike Barnett Sports Complex, with priority to be given to visitors with ACROD permits.
Additional parking will be available in the overflow parking area behind the venue on Dixon Road Reserve, which can be accessed from Dowling Street.
A free wheelchair accessible shuttle bus will be available to assist visitors from the overflow car park to the venue.
Attendees travelling by public transport can catch the 548, 549, 551 or 555 buses.
The closest train station is Rockingham Station and visitors can catch the 555 from the station to Mike Barnett Sports Complex.
