The RSPCA has issued a warning to pet owners in the Parmelia area.

It comes after a tennis ball containing a metal dart and some white powder was found in a backyard along Parmelia Avenue.

Luckily it was found before a dog got to it.

The RSPCA is urging people to keep an eye out for anything suspicious in their yards.

Anything suspicious should be reported immediately to the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 CRUELTY (278 3589).

Baiting or poisoning animals is a serious offence under the Animal Welfare Act (2002) and carries maximum penalties of up to a $50,000 fine, up to 5 years imprisonment, and a criminal conviction.
