A shark advice has been issued for White Hills Beach in Bouvard after a whale carcass washed ashore.
The carcass was reported by a member of the public at 5.48pm on Thursday, August 1.
"It is possible the carcass will act as an attractant that could lead to sharks coming in close to shore along this stretch of coast," a Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) spokesperson said.
"While it’s not uncommon for sharks to be present off the Western Australian coast throughout the year, people should exercise additional caution."
The City of Mandurah has closed the beach and once the whale carcass has been removed the beach will be reopened.
If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600.
