A Facebook page has also been established for local businesses to promote offers and opportunities available.

As of 11:59pm Monday 30 March, all public playgrounds in the Shire of Murray, as well as the Pinjarra and Dwellingup Skate Parks and Dwellingup Pump Track, have closed until further notice.

The closure includes popular attractions such as Cantwell Park in Pinjarra, and Adventurescape Playground in South Yunderup.

The closure extends to all public toilets.

Public outdoor exercise equipment is also out-of-use and public barbeques and drinking fountains have been disconnected.

According to Chief Executive Officer Mr. Dean Unsworth, the closures follow tighter restrictions imposed by the Australian Government over the weekend, to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“Residents are encouraged to follow Australian Government advice to stay at home and only travel for essential purposes including shopping for necessities; medical, health or compassionate reasons; exercise in line with public gathering requirements and work or study if these cannot be done remotely.

“We also discourage visitors to our Shire during these unprecedented times. Please heed the stay home advice

“We hope to welcome visitors back soon, when it is safe for visitors and residents alike.

“Until such times, let’s do what we can to stop the spread, staying at home and connecting with each other online, remembering a time that was and that will be again,” Mr. Unsworth said.

Local Murray businesses including cafes, restaurants, pubs, takeaway venues and other food related enterprises, have rallied to adapt their services to meet Government requirements and community demand throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this endeavor the @madeinmurray Facebook page has been established to promote the offers and opportunities available.

“The page is a reminder of the strength and resilience of our community.

“Let’s like and follow the page and stand behind our businesses as much as we can,” Mr. Unsworth said.
