WAFL: Peel miss out on minor premiership

Peel Thunder have fallen short of a minor premiership after going down to East Perth by 20-points in the final game of the regular season at the weekend.

It was a top-of-the-table clash at Sullivan Logistics Stadium on Saturday with Peel fighting to keep top spot on the ladder and win their first ever minor premiership.

Conditions were tough for both teams but the Royals were just too good for the Thunder, eventually winning 6.13 (49) to 4.5 (29).

Peel coach Adam Read said although they missed out on top spot, he was still very pleased with their season result.

"We would've liked to have come away with the win on the weekend and the benefits of finishing at the top which is the week off in the finals, but at the same time we're really happy with our season, we've had a great year and to finish second and give ourselves a double chance and a home game in the finals is a great result," he said.

The Thunder will take on Swan Districts at Lane Group Stadium in a qualifying final on Saturday, August 31.
