Winners selected for Castaways People's Choice Awards

The winners of the Castaways Fremantle Ports People’s Choice Awards have been selected.

Castaways is the City of Rockingham's signature art and culture event and provides emerging and professional artists with an opportunity to showcase their creative skills by designing sculptures made from repurposed materials.

This year, Castaways ran from October. 23 - 31.

The winner of the $1000 Fremantle Ports People’s Choice Award – Main Exhibition category was Kim Perrier with Carbonature Metamorphosis ‘A Quest for Balance’. 

Paul Fontanini’s Casting with Nature – Termites 3, Coral of the Jarrah Forest took out the $500 Fremantle Ports People’s Choice Award – Maquette and Small Sculpture Exhibition category, while Rockingham Beach Primary School won the Fremantle Ports People’s Choice Award Trophy for the Schools Competition with their piece Rocket Ram.

Meanwhile, the $500 Councillors Choice Award went to local artist Andrew Willmot for his work Penguin.

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin congratulated the People’s Choice Award winners across all three Castaways exhibitions.

 “This year’s edition of Castaways featured several outstanding artworks, and the variety of sculptures on display provided visitors with an array of sculptures to select as their favourite,” Mayor Hamblin said. 

“The votes have since been counted and the City would like to congratulate Kim Perrier, Paul Fontanini, Andrew Willmott and Rockingham Beach Primary School on their well-earned success.
