A 62-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly stealing $1.6 million from her workplace in Port Kennedy.

Financial Crimes Squad detectives travelled to the UK to extradite Annie Melanie Lucas back to WA following an extensive investigation.

Ms Lucas was employed in an administrative role at a contracting company when, between 2007 and 2013, she allegedly deposited several business cheques into her personal bank account and also used business cheques to pay for personal bills and services.

She also allegedly made several transactions depositing money from the business bank accounts directly into her personal account.

Ms Lucas appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday, February 22 where she faces 103 charges of stealing as a servant.

She will reappear in court again today where she is expected to apply for bail.

“Financial crime matters are taken very seriously and are thoroughly investigated. Complex investigations often involve years of work," a WA Police spokesperson said.

“This sends a message to the community that no matter the length of time or distance involved, WA Police Force investigators will not give up until they bring those responsible before the court to face justice.

“People who commit offences like these while in a position of trust should expect police to come knocking at their door at any time.”
