A Rockingham mother has suffered serious injuries after she was allegedly bashed by a stranger outside of a service station.

Fiona was allegedly set upon outside 7/11 on Dixon Road in Rockingham in the early hours of Saturday morning while she went to buy a bottle of water.

The accused allegedly beat her repeatedly with a hammer.

"I turned around to him and he just looked [at me], he just said to me 'do you want to get hammered?'," Fiona told 9News.

"I was on the ground, I just kept on pleading with him, telling him I have kids, and that I couldn't die."

Fiona suffered a broken arm and a serious head injury that required multiple stitches.

She said she screamed for assistance but the service station attendant locked the doors.

“I was just screaming at her ‘let me in, let me in, please, he’s not even here, just let me in’,” she told 9News.

The mother then ran to nearby bushes and waited for police to arrive.

James Plester, 29, has been charged with unlawful wounding over the incident.
