Wooroloo fire destroys 71 homes

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services will be dealing with hot and windy weather conditions, as the Wooroloo bushfire enters its third day.

There are concerns the wind gust could reach up to 70km/h and push the fire towards Shady Hills Estate in Bullsbrook after 12pm.

The fire was reported in Wooroloo on Monday afternoon and has since destroyed 71 homes and tore through more than 9000 hectares of land.

An emergency warning remains in place for parts of the Shire or Mundaring, Chittering, Northam and the City of Swan.

Over 220 career and volunteer firefighters will continue their efforts to get the blaze under control today.

Wooroloo Bushfire Conditions

Over 200 firefighters are still working tirelessly in extreme terrain and conditions at the Wooroloo bushfire. Erratic fire behaviour fanned by strong winds continues to challenge crews on the frontline who are protecting what they can and putting containment lines in place. Firefighters have done incredible work to protect lives and homes overnight and throughout today. Tragically, 59 homes have been lost. This is devastating news, and our thoughts are with the homeowners who are currently being notified. We are working with local governments to provide support to affected residents during this difficult time. Thankfully, no lives have been lost. Thank you for you offers of donations and support. Please hold on to any donations until after this incident has eased as we are unable to process an influx of goods while we are focusing on response. The Lord Mayors Distress Relief is being set up and further details will be provided once available. People living within the Emergency Warning Area that have evacuated cannot return home – it’s too dangerous and you’ll be risking not only your own life, but the lives of emergency services personnel. This fire is still not contained or controlled. An immediate threat to lives and homes remains, and we will continue to keep you updated through our official warnings at www.emergency.wa.gov.au.
