WorkSafe will attend Alcoa's Pinjarra refinery this morning after five workers were injured in a chemical spill.

A man in his 60s and another man in his 30s were rushed by ambulance to Fiona Stanley Hospital with chemical burns following the incident on Tuesday afternoon.

They are believed to be in a stable condition, while three other workers were also injured and treated at the scene.

“Alcoa’s focus and thoughts are with the injured people and their families,” an Alcoa spokesperson said.

“The company is working with authorities and a full investigation will be undertaken.”

WorkSafe acting commissioner Sally North said they have been informed of the incident and will be investigating.

“WorkSafe has required the site operator to hold the scene of the incident and inspectors will attend in the morning,” she said.
