Kris Kristofferson, the legendary country singer-songwriter and acclaimed actor, has died at age 88.
He passed away on Saturday at his home in Maui, Hawaii. No cause of death was given, but he was described as passing away peacefully while surrounded by family.
“Kris Kristofferson believed creativity is God-given, and those who ignore such a gift are doomed to unhappiness. He preached that a life of the mind gives voice to the soul, and his work gave voice not only to his soul but to ours. He leaves a resounding legacy.”

Many of his songs were best known and performed by others, including Sunday Morning Coming Down, made famous by Johnny Cash.
He also penned Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin.
Kristofferson cofounded the country music supergroup The Highwaymen consisting of Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings – and released their #1 album Highwayman in 1985. They went on to release two more successful albums in the early 90s.
He also was an incredible actor and starred in more than 100 movies including Martin Scorsese’s 1974 film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, and starred opposite Barbra Streisand in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born, where he won a Golden Globe for his performance.
Their song Evergreen – won an Oscar for Best Original Song.
He retired from performing and recording in 2021, making rare guest appearances on stage.
