Jones was the producer behind Michael Jackson's album "Thriller," which spent 37 weeks atop the charts and sold 20 million copies worldwide by the end of 1983 alone – and is still the bestselling album of all time.
Born and raised on Chicago's southside, Jones' early career saw him tour with Count Basie. He would later arrange music for legends like Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Ella Fitzgerald; soundtrack scores to 'Roots", “The Colour Purple” and 'In The Heat of The Night' and also oversee the 1985 all-star charity single "We Are The World".
Jones kept company with presidents and foreign leaders, movie stars and musicians, philanthropists and business leaders. By the time Jones' memoir 'Q' dropped in 2001, he was already a 28-time Grammy award winner and an Emmy and Academy Award winner.
Jones was also named a Kennedy Center honoree.
He leaves behind a wealthy legacy of music and family, with 7 children, including actress Rashida Jones… and 5 grandchildren.
There will never be another like him… Vale, Quincy Jones.
