Argentinian actress Olivia Hussey – the star of the 1968 film Romeo & Juliet - has passed away at 73. She had been battling breast cancer.
Hussey was only 15 when she starred opposite British actor Leonard Whiting, 16, as Romeo in the Shakespearean movie.
Both were unknowns, but their roles shot them to instant stardom. The film was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar and three other Academy Awards, and Olivia received a Golden Globe for her efforts. She went on to star in many movies and theatre productions in her long career and passed away peacefully in Argentina, surrounded by her family.
Some more sad news with the passing of former President Jimmy Carter – who passed away on Sunday. He was 100 years old.
Carter went from a peanut farmer to governor of Georgia and became the 39th president of the United States in 1977. During his term, Carter dealt with a bad economy, the Iranian hostage crisis, and brokered peace between Israel and Egypt. He is noted for his humanitarian endeavours including his involvement in building houses with Habitat for Humanity and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
